Job Summary
With the capability to multi-task across a number of projects, you will be responsible for the delivery of designs for all electrical and earthing works. Working with Project Managers and the client you will be responsible for prioritising work to ensure project delivery requirements are satisfied.
Key Objectives
- Responsible for the delivery of designs for all earthing and electrical works associated with rail projects.
- Production of work packages for sub-contractors to perform site surveys, installation and test.
- Responsible for checking of test results provided by contractors.
- To act as a point of reference across all Rail Projects for all design activities associated with the provision of electrical power, the bonding of equipment or structures for the purpose of safety or immunisation.
Requirements
HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in an Engineering related subject, City & Guilds 2391 Part 1 & Part 2 or Equivalent
Knowledge of:
- Earthing and bonding arrangements for low voltage electrical installation on UK rail network
- Rail traction bonding practices (3rd rail and OLE).
- BS 7671, IET wiring regulations.
- Computer aided design packages for electrical design
Experience in:
- The design of Low Voltage electrical systems (up to 1000v A.C.) on the UK rail network
- The management of electrical testing
- Approving site tests and presentation of the results to the client for acceptance.

Desirable Skills
- Experience in the earthing and bonding requirements for radio installations
- Experience of earthing arrangements for lightning protection purposes
- Previous experience of Rail signalling or telecomms design
- Knowledge of rail EMC screening principles
