Narinder Pal, Project Manager
I've worked extensively in the rail industry during my career, and I've been with telent since early 2000. I'm currently working on the East Midlands Resignalling Renewals project, based in Derby with the client. We have already successfully delivered the first two phases of the project and I am now responsible for leading engineering and implementation through to completion.
Each day is different, but they are all usually very busy. My day begins early, making and taking phone calls that will affect how I plan the rest of my day. There will normally be meetings to attend with customers during the day, and of course there are plenty of site visits to monitor progress and discuss any issues that telent engineers may want to bring to my attention. I never feel that I’m working within a traditional nine-to-five environment.
The real difference for me between telent and the other rail organisations with which I've had experience has been the dynamic nature of the company and its ‘can do’ attitude. People here are flexible and open to new ideas and change - after all, this is a continually evolving business. Another clear difference is the level of customer focus at telent. Our partnership approach has ensured we have formed many long-term relationships with various blue chip clients, resulting in a lot of repeat business.
I've found telent to be a very flexible employer. You’re empowered to make your own decisions and given real responsibility on the projects you manage, but you still have the support of a large organisation behind you. This makes it a great environment for career development, and as a result people tend to stay at telent. There is so much opportunity here at the moment that I see my long-term career development best served by staying with the company.
